Arbonne. I’m sure most, if not all of you have at leastheardof this company. If you are NOT familiar however, they have created a completely vegan-friendly line of anti-aging, health & wellness, skin & body care and cosmetic products. Personally, I was familiar with the company, but hadn’t used any of their products previously.
Then, a family friend of mine, who also happens to be a rockstar Mom as well as Arbonne consultant, Emily, approached us a couple of months back (okay, so this post is WAYYYY overdue) about trying some Arbonne products and writing up our thoughts. At first, I wondered how skin care really pertained to fashion, but then realized, how are you supposed to look good in those hot pair of Michael Kors wedges you just scored from your local TJ Maxx if all others see is not-so-great skin. Basically, the first thing people see, generally, is your face. Why not focus on enhancing and preserving that beauty?
With that said, I have a couple of products that REALLY stood out as my favorite. First of all, I am definitely a liquid make-up kind of girl. I went the all-naturale Bare Escentuals route (which is great for some people I understand) and honestly, I wasn’t impressed with the coverage. I am certainly NOT, however, a girl that likes her face to be buried under 3 inches of gunk either. Basically, what I’m looking for is a liquid foundation that covers without making me feel claustrophobic. As I was given samples of the foundation, I clearly waited until I had a good excuse to try it—a local fundraising dinner where I also sported that dress I blogged about before. I have naturally red-toned skin, so it’s even more important to me to find a foundation that goes on, evens things out and then LASTS. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked in the mirror after a couple of hours and noticed all the foundation is gone. Where it went? Who knows. Maybe my skin just sucks it in. So really, I wanted to put this Arbonne foundation up to the all-night fundraising, socializing event that was ahead of me. I’m happy to say the second I found my perfect shade it went on perfectly. (AND, coupled with the great make-up primer she also sent over, it lasted all night—until 3am I might add!) NO more red but all even natual beige tone! This specific product was called Perfecting Liquid Foundation and there are about a million different shades so I know you can find the one that’s perfect for you! The best part about it is that it is all-natural, so you call feel good about rubbing it into your skin, but also, and somewhat more importantly in my book, it WORKS.
Okay, enough about foundation. My second (well third if you count the primer…for anyone who knows me and knows how much I LOVE eyeshadow—you know I think a good primer is a must so all that shadow doesn’t get buried in those cute little wrinkles on your lids as the day goes on) favorite product was from the Seasource Detox Spa trio Emily sent over. This product, pictured above, is called the Renewing Body Gelee—the third step in the trio. One of my biggest hobbies is running. I never thought I would love to go out on a run (I’m more of an organized sports girl) but I do. What I don’t love is the feeling of cooling off from a run, washing my face and then realizing that once was smooth, happy skin is now a desert. I figured this would be a great opportunity to try out the hydration and renewal this product is known for. What do you know? I LOVED IT! As soon as I put it on I felt cool, refreshed and ready to relax for the evening. I love these key ingredients: butcher’s broom extract, sea kelp extract, ivy leaf extract, green tea extract. Sounds pretty all-natual right? I think it’s the green tea extract that I love the most—just gives it a great aroma and enhances that “cooling” feeling.

Stumbled upon “Threadsence” today. For those of you who might not have heard of this site before, Threadsence is an Indie inspired clothing site. I can definitely see the Indie inspiration, but as I’m not one to go all Indie on you typically, there are some other, rather preppy items as you look through the pieces as well. I do have a point I’m trying to make here….

One of my favorite fun fashion (loved the alliteration, didn’t you??) trends of this spring so far is the low-high hem dress. Don’t you just look at these and want to do a little summer dance?? And, as it just so happens, Threadsence had some cute options. Of course my two faves, pictuered here, are currently sold out. Wouldn’t ya know it.

Looks like I may or may not have just a requested an email for when they both come back in stock. Sorry I’m not sorry.

Cobalt. From what I hear, it’s the #trending color for Spring 2012.
I have to take a sec to brag about this J.Crew sale purchase I made a few weeks ago as seen on Drew Barrymore. Now, I am on a search for the perfect pair of cobalt heels to pair with my find similar to these Michael Antonio Loveme Suede pumps on zappos.com.
And possibly a chunky coral necklace. I’m just in looooveee with these bright Spring colors! Any fun ideas, send them my way!

Male Fashion. I believe I speak for Laura and I when (as superficial as it sounds) we both have chosen the special man in our lives partly on their style. Classic. Southern. Men….Yes. Please.
If you are from the South and are NOT familiar with Back Down South, you should be. Also, if you are a male, and southern, you should check out my hub’s blog here.
I love the hoof-pick belt (which the hubs conveniently scored for Christmas 2k11), khaki shorts pastel shirt with bow tie and boat shoes. If my husband had a say in this he would trade the Sperry’s for some Cole Haan driving mocs and the shorts pictured here for some shorter ones. In other words, he would consider these “longs”.
Let’s get your opinion: how do you feel about this new bow tie trend with the two patterned look? I’m torn. Lurve the bow tie of course, but is it too much?? Can you ever have TOO much prep?? The question of the day, folks.

Brokenhearted.

I think it’s high time for an apology for the lack of blogging on our end. But like all true Tar Heel fans would, I would ask you to not blame us, but blame Dook instead. I think the above picture of our beloved Roy speaks to the anguish we’ve been facing since the Dookies upset our Heels in basketball a couple of weeks back. What can I say? We’re Tar Heels through and through. But, hey, I also say GTHD and bring on the fashion!!

Remember this from the last post?? Well it’s on sale for $29.50 now! Woot woot!

She’s Got Style, She’s Got Class…

In honor of it being Monday and for all of you hooked on The Bachelor out there (originally for Ben, but now determining that he is wayyyy too boring), you might be asking yourself every episode, “OMG! Could Kacie B. be any cuter???” Well, at least I am. I love her casual, chic, southern, “I’m beautiful and I know it but don’t have to flaunt my boobs for you think so too” kind of style.

Here is one of her outfits from her first one-on-one with Ben in Sonoma, CA.

Excuse the horrible quality, but trying to find a screenshot of her full-length from this episode proved more difficult than I thought. Loving the shorts with boots look—again, spring, please get here soon!!

Now, what if I told you you could be the owner of this look (well, pretty dern close)??

Necklace: Wax Seal by Ritzy Misfit. $27.00 I know you can’t see it, but it’s there. Seriously, they must have gotten these as a gift because ALL the Bachelor girls have been wearing them. I like.

Top: Steal: Forever 21 $12.80

Splurge:LOFT Striped Dolman Sleeved Poncho Sweater $69.50

Shorts: LOFT $39.50 Great price! And I’m sure they’ll probably be on sale soon!

Boots: Indigo by Clarks ON SALE! $159.99 (Okay, I think these are sooo worth it. What CAN’T you wear with a good pair of brown boots? And Clarks are known for being SUPER comfy.)

I am posting this epically amazing music video in honor of the weekend, four weeks of Blue Ivy in the world and, of course, the weekend. (yes, I said the weekend twice… and I meant it).

Also, follow the beautiful Beyonce in this video and dare to wear a bright pop of color with one of your many outfits you plan to put on this weekend!

love y’all :)

Lipschtick.

One of our readers, THE NKS,  posed some great questions today: “Tell me about lipstick…what colors do you recommend? When do you usually wear lipstick? What brands? Hook me up!”

Here’s my piece of advice, stick with your gut… as well as your lips. Basically, what I’m trying to say is that the color of your lips should make YOU feel good, sexy, happy, whatever your heart delights. When you look in the mirror, you should feel confident that the lip shade compliments your eyes, your cheekbones, your everything. More practically, try and stick with a color that is a similar tone to your ACTUAL lip color - seems like a pretty simplistic answer, but its the honest truth.

Here’s a few scenarios for the visual/practical learners: It’s date night, you’re going somewhere snazzy, your eyes are smoky and the blush is on… go maybe one or two shades darker than your natural color and you’ll find it makes a statement without looking like a sideshow.

Here’s another: You’re going out with the girls (to the mall, to coffee, to a bar), your eyes have some mascara, eyeliner or maybe some eyeshadow, your cheeks are brushed with a lighter peach color or nothing at all… I would pick a color that matches almost perfectly to your natural lip color. It may sound a little ridiculous to buy a color that matches but the lipstick will still pop and can really be an easy accessory to an outfit.

On the other side, and I think I’ve harped on this well enough, I love a good pop of color. When I’m doing this with lipstick I tend to go in the pink family as opposed to the reds because I like the non-traditional flare and just the fact that it makes be good n’ happy.  Also, red lipstick can actually do worse than better because it tends to highlight the red spot/blemishes on your face and show off those not-so-pearly whites.

Overall, I think the best lipstick advice I ever have received was to choose either your lips or your eyes. Don’t do both because you end up looking like the sideshow we mentioned earlier.

As far as brands go, stick with something that goes on smooth. You don’t want your lips to turn into crusty crusts in a matter of milliseconds. If you can’t find that perfect shade you were looking for in a moisturizing lipstick, find a great gloss to layer on top to provide some shine. Nothing is worse than that awkward smile that screams “my lips hurt real bad!!” My favorite low-budget option is CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor. This particular brand has a “silk moisturizing complex” that helps smooth and perfect your lips in approximately 7 days. For a pop of color go with tempt or flame (love coral lips…). And to keep it nude go with delish or fervor.

All in all, the right lipstick shade for you really depends on you… go to your local Target, try some colors on your finger, hold it up to your lips and see what you would feel comfortable in. And take this little piece from the great Bobbi Brown:

“If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup.”

Did somebody say chambray?

Is it just me or has winter gotten anyone else in a summer-can’t-get-here-soon-enough kind of mood?? A recent purchase of mine (Joanna) of the J.Crew (outlet—duh.) keeper chambray shirt featured has me daydreaming about the endless combinations for this perfect wardrobe addition.

Dress it up with a sequined gold shirt under and add a cuff, jazz it up with some bright skinny jeans like this blanknyc pair in vivid poppy (add a simple black wedge!), or throw it on with white jeans (OMG wouldn’t this look AMAZING with white jeans??? -My fellow fashionista Laura to every shirt she finds and loves) and add a color pop with a leather skinny belt like this one, also from J.Crew in lemon zest.

Top your already amazing outfit off with a pair of sweet shades like these I-must-save-up-and-purchase-as-soon-as-possible Ray-Bans in the Eliza model. Yes please.

“I don’t really care if they like me or not.”
 Heidi Klum

My new obsession is turquoise. Okay, it’s not really new per say, but it’s been amped up by recent jewelry purchases from Francesca’s - clearly, another obsession.

The main reason I love turquoise is the pop it adds to any outfit - I mean, it pretty much goes with every color: black, purple, navy, yellow, brown, red, pink, green, orange, or any combination of these colors (see blog prior to this about color-blocking at NY Fashion Week).

As I was googling turquoise fashion 2012 to find a picture for this blog, I ran across this picture of Heidi Klum in a beautiful floor-length peach dress by Calvin Klein and turquoise jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz. Wowza. First of all, I LOVE the color combo - it’s simple yet stunning. Second of all, I love Heidi Klum. Girl don’t care what anybody thinks and her fashion statements prove that. Lady friend crush.

For those who can’t afford those red carpet prices, however, here’s a beautiful number by the one, the only forever 21 (I don’t shop there much anymore, but hey they dominated this color train):
